Lock Change
When the hardware itself is the problem, a rekey is lipstick. This is the full swap.
What this service actually involves
Lock change is for the cases rekeying cannot cure: hardware worn past rebuilding, corrosion from coastal air, damage from a break-in or a slammed decade, or builder-grade locks that were never good. The old hardware comes off, the door gets fitted properly, and the new lock is keyed how you want it, including matched to your existing key where compatible.
What goes on the door matters more than brand ads suggest: ANSI Grade 2 is the honest sweet spot for most homes, a real deadbolt with a one-inch throw and a reinforced strike plate outperforms most gadgetry, and coastal properties deserve hardware finished for salt air. The van stocks accordingly.
Questions, answered straight
What lock should I actually buy?
For most exterior doors: a Grade 2 or better deadbolt, one-inch throw, with a four-screw reinforced strike into the stud. That combination defeats the kick, which is the attack houses actually face.
Can the new locks use my existing key?
If the cylinders are compatible, yes, new hardware keyed to your current key is routine.
Our locks are pitted from the sea air.
Coastal classic. The replacement conversation includes finishes and internals that survive salt, which is not what big-box stock is optimized for.
