Smart & Keypad Locks
Codes for the cleaner, logs for the Airbnb, no key under the flowerpot. Installed so the mechanics deserve the electronics.
What this service actually involves
Smart and keypad locks earn their keep on real workflows: rental turnovers with per-guest codes, cleaners and dog-walkers on schedules, kids who lose keys, and the end of the flowerpot key. The catch nobody advertises: they amplify mechanical problems, a misaligned deadbolt that a hand forgives will drain batteries and strip motors. The install fixes the door first.
Brand and protocol guidance is part of the visit, keypad-only versus app-connected, Wi-Fi versus Z-Wave and Matter, what survives a dead battery and what a power cut, and Florida-specific counsel on humidity-rated exterior units. Where a smart lock is the wrong answer, mechanical high-security with restricted keys, you hear it plainly.
Questions, answered straight
What happens when the battery dies?
Every unit we install has a defined fallback, a physical key path, an external 9V contact, or advance low-battery warnings. You get shown the fallback at handover, not surprised by it later.
Are smart locks safe from hacking?
The realistic risks are weak codes and lost phones more than movie hacking. Reputable units with current firmware, sensible codes and a mechanical backstop are a sound residential setup.
Can it match my existing house key?
Many models take a standard cylinder that keys alike with your other doors, one key plus the codes, best of both.
