Lock Rekeying
Same locks, new key, every old copy dead: the most underrated hour in security.
What this service actually involves
Rekeying swaps the pins inside your existing cylinders so a fresh key operates them and every previous key stops working. The hardware stays, which is why rekeying costs a fraction of replacement and is the right answer after a move, a breakup, a lost purse or a contractor project where keys floated around.
It is also the path to one-key convenience: compatible cylinders across the house get pinned to a single key. The honest boundary: rekeying inherits the quality of the lock it lives in, a rekeyed builder-grade knob is still builder-grade, and when the cylinder itself is the weakness you hear that instead of a false economy.
Questions, answered straight
Rekey or replace, how do I choose?
Rekey when the hardware is decent and the problem is who has keys. Replace when the hardware itself is worn, damaged or low-grade. The technician tells you which category each door is in, per door.
How fast does it happen?
Minutes per cylinder once the van is at the door. A whole house commonly finishes within the hour.
Can my house and garage side door share a key?
Usually yes, if the cylinders are compatible brands; part of the visit is telling you which doors can join the single key and which need a swap first.
